On Sunday July 21st, Professor John Cookson, Canterbury University presented the 2019 Canterbury History Foundation Rhodes Medal to Gordon P Dennis, of Glenroy. The presentation took place at a ceremony at the University of Canterbury.
This award was founded in 1999 to encourage and support research, publication and interest in history within the wider Canterbury region.
Gordon’s award is in recognition of his contributions toward the Hororata Historic Society, the rebuilding of Coton’s Cottage and the establishment of the Hororata Museum. In addition, Gordon was recognised for sharing his knowledge of local history across the years through meeting with numerous visitors to the Museum and Cottage and in the writing of his book: The Coton’s Cottage, Hororata and the Good Old Days.
