It’s that time again, so dust off the running shoes, get the bicycle out of the shed, and start preparations for  what is bound to be another enjoyable, Malvern Fun Run/Walk/Bike. In previous years, this event has been a fundraising success for Darfield Primary School and provided a wonderful way for people to meet local families, and this year will undoubtedly be the same.

The event will begin at the Darfield Recreation Centre at 11am on March 25th (concluding at 1pm), raising funds to cover the costs of a defibrillator for the school (which will be available to the whole community). Any extra funds will go towards completion of the adventure playground at the School. This, the tenth event, will offer the choice of a three or six kilometre walk, three, six or twelve kilometre run, three, six or twelve kilometre bike, or the duathlon, a six or twelve kilometre run and bike The route will be well sign-posted (down Horndon Street and through McHugh’s plantation) and marshalls will be on hand to guide entrants through the course. As always, the organisers have all bases covered when it comes to providing fun, fitness and entertainment for the whole family, with one of the main attractions being the obstacle course. This one kilometre course has been a hit with adults and children alike at past events. The separate pre-school specific course is available for little ones who want to join in, but are just too tiny to negotiate the huge hay bales! The obstacle courses will involve running through a water tunnel, hurdles, haystack maze, slip’n slide and tyre hill.

DJ Singh Star will be on site to provide music and information that is guaranteed to keep all age groups inspired and moving throughout the day and watch-out for the children’s ‘Fun Zone’. For a one-off payment of $2 each child gets admission to fire truck rides, bouncy castle obstacle course, a temporary tattoo and a lolly scramble!

Hunger will be kept at bay by Marge and Stacey’s Gourmet Burgers and the sausage and bacon buttie sizzle, while Tag coffee aims to keep the caffeine levels topped up.

Organisers report that there will be some amazing spot prizes handed out, including one for the best dressed team entry.
