Waitangi Day Fun

The Darfield Waitangi Day Community Picnic organised by the Two Rivers Community Trust Events was a much-enjoyed and well-attended event, even the weather played the game after looking a tad damp in the very early morning (see next week’s Malvern News for further information and pictures).

Local group Malvern Material Girls were at the event, in the Recreation Centre, putting together a patchwork quilt, with the help of passers-by. Folk were encouraged to have a go either on a new sewing machine, or a vintage Singer model. Selwyn Mayor Sam Broughton was keen to give the old machine a go, and completed two blocks for the quilt using the vintage, hand-cranked Singer sewing machine. When completed the quilt will be displayed in the Darfield Library along with a suggestion box, for suitable recipient nominations.
